Poetry Terms

Sound Devices

1) Rhyme= When two words end using the same sound on a poem.
2) Repetition= Using the same word more than once.
3) Alliteration= Using the same nonviolence words in the beginning.

Devices

1) Symbol= An object person, or idea that stands for something beyond itself.
2) Imagery= An image that relates to your sense of sight.
3) *Figurative Language= A type of writing that is usually not taken literally.
*Metaphor= A comparison of two thing without using the words "like" or "as".
*Simile= A comparison of two thing using the words "like" or "as".
*Personification= Giving human traits to non-living objects.

Forms & Purpose

1) Narrative------>tells a story= A message that tells facts of an act or an occurrence of an event.
2) Ballad (Narrative)= A narrative song with a repeat catchprase.
3) Lyric Poem= A short poem of songlike quality.
